Robin Belfield is a theatre director and writer based in the UK.

Born in The Bahamas, Robin studied Drama at The University of Bristol and then was awarded a place on the prestigious Regional Young Theatre Director Scheme.  During that time he was based at Nuffield Theatre in Southampton.


Robin was a Staff Director at The National Theatre, assisting (among others) Nicholas Hytner and Rupert Goold.  Prior to that he was Deputy Outreach Director at The Watermill Theatre in Newbury.


Currently Robin is Young People's Performance Developer for the Royal Shakespeare Company.  Over the past 5 years he has developed and led the RSC's Next Generation initiative, working in partnership with several regional theatres across the country to deliver a  successful national talent development programme.

Robin has directed productions for many of the top theatres and drama schools in the UK.  He is a specialist in theatre for young people, education and training, Shakespeare and community theatre.  


As a writer, Robin regularly collaborates with composer Simon Slater (for more information about their work click here...) to create new musicals.  Robin also writes handbooks for theatre makers, his first on making Verbatim Theatre is out now with a second in the pipeline.  So watch this space...
